Communities of practice
Thematic Reference Groups
A series of specialist reference groups ('communities of practice') has been established to boost efforts to fight the infectious diseases of poverty. The ten groups are being set up by the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), as part of its new 'Stewardship' function set out in its Ten Year Vision
and Strategy. Each group will focus either on a specific infectious disease (or category of disease) or on a cross-cutting theme relevant to all these diseases. The groups will review research evidence, evaluate its relevance, assess challenges in disease control, highlight new scientific advances, and provide independent guidance on priority area and research gaps.
